The Brothers Cooley

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Since their inception, The Brothers Cooley have quickly developed a sound that is unique in today’s music world, emitting a never-ending effusion of overpoweringly funky riffs, instrumental jams, and a lot of other creative musical forces that make amplifiers sing. They channel the psychedelic spirit created by musical and spiritual pioneers of the mid-sixties, offering a cool drink of water to all of us stranded in the ProTools, chemical-laden musical desert. Equipped with a modest home-made studio in their basement, they recorded their first live EP “Live from the Basement Box” in the fall of 2007. Sam, the eldest of the Brothers, who during his youth intensely studied blues music, guitar, and history under such legends as John Cephas, Mississippi Red, Robert Belfour and countless others, describes the Brothers first effort: “We are always trying to mesh our minds during every aspect of the creative process, writing, preforming, and producing. The sound and energy embodied by our heroes has been lost and trampled over. I (Sam) has been playing music with people all my life and this is the greatest level of harmony I have ever achieved with any two people. I believe we have truly grasped a sliver of this heritage. It is truly greater than all of us.”

The Brothers Cooley continue to rock in the name of peace and love, relentlessly cultivating their insatiable desire to make music, knowing it is truer than any obstacles that might stand in their way. They propel into the future un-phased by any irrelevant obligations to bring their versions of classic psychedelic heavy rock to you the audience.

…Or, you could say they’re just three kids, compelled to conduct soul-swelling jams by forces unknown, trying to get their kicks before the Suger-Shack goes up in smoke!

Performer Magazine

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Performer is a magazine for independent musicians. The mission is to supply our readership with motivating interviews and the kind of industry information they need to get ahead. We cover bands and solo artists based on the West Coast who are either unsigned or signed to an independent label. All styles of music are fair game — from country to funk to hip-hop to nu-tribal-klezmer-core — as long as there’s something innovative going on.

While Performer is dedicated to promoting all genres of independent music, this profile is for the West Coast edition, so we are only interested in making friends with musicians, studios, labels, etc. in the West Coast community.

Look for Fastback Studios interview in the May Edition of Performer Magazine.
